The pandemic has taken its toll on everyone’s lives. COVID-19 pandemic revealed the ugly reality of our fellow Filipinos. I am talking about the current situation of our country’s front liners, drivers, farmers, and all the significant people behind our survival during these trying times.

On April 29, a twitter user shared a heart-warming letter together with her vegetable orders from the farmers of Benguet.

According to Justine (@tinforshort) on Twitter, she has been ordering vegetables from the farmers through Session Groceries for the community pantry she is supporting.

To her surprise, a folded bond paper was placed with the vegetables as she opened her order. Turns out it was from the farmers who planted and harvested all the crops she has bought.

“To our customer, ako po at ang aking pamilya, aming mga laborer, ay labis pong nagpapasalamat sa inyo. Sa panahon ngayon, lugi po talaga ibang farmer dahil walang mapuntahan ang mga gulay dahil sa ipinapatupad na GCQ at ECQ.” the writer said

It was a year ago when tons of vegetables harvested from Benguet were thrown away due to a decrease in sales and quarantine restrictions.

The farmers even asked the local government units’ help to buy the vegetables for relief goods for their constituents instead of letting all of it spoil.

“Kaya po blessed kami sa inyo kasi kahit papaano sa malupit na sitwasyon kayo po ang tumulong sa aming lahat."

"God bless po sa inyo. Pray namin na ibalik ng Dios ang tulong na sobra-sobra sa inyong pamilya at pangkabuhayan. Salamat po," the farmer concluded.

The tweet earned over 53,000 likes and 14,000 retweets. Netizens were deeply moved by the letter and started to show their support by endorsing Session Groceries, saying that buying from the app is a big help to the farmers’ difficult situation.

It is disheartening to see our Filipino farmers struggling harder just to make ends meet, persevering to survive. Seeing the letter made us feel that they were really grateful for the orders they are getting.

Since then, queries from people who live in various areas started to pour in, showing their eagerness to help. People in the reply section have posted screenshots of them browsing and ordering from the Session Groceries shop. Looking at those replies is slowly restoring my faith in humanity.

I am glad to see people appreciating the effort the farmers did, people recognizing the hardship the farmers have been going through just to put healthy meals on our table and their families’.

It was a simple letter but the words written on it speak volumes. It wasn’t extravagant and it looks very ordinary but it doesn’t matter because after all, it’s the thought that counts.
