Things to Ponder
By: Sophia Juan
Students nowadays often have the mindset that getting high grades in school is more important than their mental health and mental stability. Some students are not after the learning anymore and they tend to complete their requirements just for the sake of getting high grades.
This seems to be one of the emerging issues in our education system today that has not been given enough attention especially in this time of pandemic and while dealing with most of the things virtually.
Due to the countless projects, requirements, outputs, and other tasks that are given, the students are being burnt out and exhausted— much more if we are to consider their stress and fatigue due to other responsibilities aside from being a student. Because of the students’ fear of getting low grades, they disregard this exhaustion and they tend to ignore their mental health and overall well-being.
This cycle has been going on for years and it seems like students value their academic standing more than their mental health to the point that some students are neglecting the state of their mental capabilities which could negatively affect them in the future.
We can all agree that seeing the fruits of our labor feels so good especially when we worked hard for it— but it is also important to think twice if these hard works and sacrifices are all worth it just for the sake of high numbers.
