Commissioner Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio said in a virtual presser that the Comelec is now studying the possibilities of modifying the campaigning rules since the pandemic is still going on.
She also said that the poll body may have to introduce new campaigning guidelines if the situation of COVID in the country worsens wherein the traditional way of campaigning will not be allowed.
“So if it is really not advisable for candidates to go face to face campaign, we may limit or introduce other forms of campaigning that candidates can adapt,” Ampoloquio added.
The election campaign tradition in the country before the pandemic is often held in the different rural and urban areas wherein the candidates and the voters are being gathered and the presentation of platforms and campaign promises are introduced.
Based on Comelec’s calendar of activities, the National and Local Elections will be on May 9, 2022 and the campaigning period for the national positions is set for 90 days before the scheduled elections. The local candidates for local positions on the other hand are allowed to campaign 45 days before the elections.
